Sustainable construction starts right down at the winter mats. Combitherm mats are made from 78% recycled materials.
The construction industry has a steadily increasing focus on sustainability and environmental impact. This is reflected in many aspects of everyday life on building sites, and both investors and developers expect consultants and contractors to find sustainable solutions when construction is about to start.
Combitherm winter mats are the optimal solution for protecting concrete floors, gables and walls against the winter cold. Unlike other insulating products, the Combitherm winter mat has two obvious advantages: It is robust and can be used several times, and it is based on recycled products.
“As much as 78% of the filling in our winter mats is made from recycled fibres from plastic granulate derived from PET bottles - that is water and soft drink bottles. It is plastic that does not end up in nature or the oceans but can be used again and again as insulation material. Just one kilo of granulate keeps 60 empty plastic bottles away from nature,” says Combitherm Sales Manager Jens Elisius Christensen.
The insulation is called Polywool, and it is made in Germany, and it is a product with many advantages, the Sales Manager points out:
“The material has a low own weight, and each winter mat is therefore easy to handle even for one person. It is chemical-free and contains no mineral fibres, which means that you do not need to wear gloves or respirators to handle the mats, and allergy sufferers will not be at risk. Finally - and this is a crucial detail - it cannot absorb water, which means that mould and bacteria cannot live in the mats, and they do not change consistency if water enters through a small crack,” says Jens Elisius Christensen.
All these advantages also mean that the winter mats have a very long lifespan compared to other products on the market. Furthermore, the mats can be easily disposed of as combustible waste without special environmental requirements or significant costs. In this respect, the winter mats from Combitherm also differ from other brands on the market.
“The fact that our winter mats are made from 78% recycled material is nothing new. We have just discovered that many consultants and contractors have not been aware that winter protection is also part of the picture of sustainable construction.
Therefore, we would like to point out that the sustainable profile should also include insulation against the cold,” says Jens Elisius Christensen, who adds that Polywool is used as insulation in all Combitherm’s insulating products.
