Sustainability and environment

Sustainability Matters

Sustainability and the environment are highly valued

Working with sustainability is a central part of our daily life at Combitherm. And we notice that the demand from customers for environmentally friendly and recyclable products is increasing. We take responsibility for our environmental impact and actively work to minimise and document our carbon footprint.

In the past, we always packed the products in cardboard boxes. We used a lot of cardboard boxes, which was both expensive and time-consuming because the boxes had to be manually assembled by our employees. Today, we have significantly optimised the packing process and most pallets are instead wrapped in film. This saves both valuable time, is economically beneficial, and not least, the new packaging solution significantly reduces CO2 emissions.

Reduce

Our products contribute to reducing energy consumption as they effectively minimise temperature changes without the use of electricity or other energy.

We have significantly reduced our CO2 footprint by replacing traditional packaging materials such as cardboard boxes with stretch wrap, which has a lower CO2 footprint. This solution has also made it possible to fit even more products on the pallets during transport. Altogether, CO2 emissions associated with packaging have become 22 times less.

At Combitherm, our experienced employees always strive to develop and produce the best thermal solutions. We work as a team, where everyone actively contributes to optimising processes and reducing waste in production. A good idea can emerge both in production and in product development, which a specific example shows: One of our employees suggested changing the roll width of our foil purchase from 150 cm to 140 cm. This has not only reduced our use of foil by about 20,000 m² but also minimised the amount of off-cuts that cannot be reused.

In everyday life, we generally look a lot at whether we can purchase recycled materials. At the same time, we are working on different, slightly larger projects aimed at minimising the climate footprint. One example is our pallet covers, of which we produce a lot. The 'roof' of the pallet covers always has the same size, whereas the height varies from cover to cover. By adjusting the production method, we could minimise the foil width we purchase by 10 cm. This has resulted in saving a total of 9,000 m² of foil per year. We will also continue to look for ways to optimise our material purchases in the future.

Recycle

The development of sustainability is an integrated part of our DNA, and we continuously work to deliver optimal and flawless quality products to our customers. We regularly adjust our processes and material use based on the principle of "many small streams" to ensure that we achieve an increasingly sustainable production.

We sort the residual materials from production and recycle as many as possible. For example, we send the insulation back to the manufacturer, who reuses it in their production of new insulation material for us.

Another example is the metallised foil we use in our insulating thermal covers. We have reduced the amount of residual foil by purchasing narrower roll widths and cutting the foil in a way that utilises the material most efficiently. The residual foil can be transformed into a high-strength plastic product, which can be incorporated into other plastic-based products.

This is part of our work to integrate circular principles into our production. Additionally, we work closely with our customers and suppliers to ensure that our products can have a new life after use, so we can jointly contribute to a more sustainable future.

We take sustainability very seriously and we work sincerely to incorporate it into our thermal solutions across the entire production chain. More and more of our customers are demanding less climate-impacting solutions, and we, of course, listen to that. A sustainable approach has become a prerequisite for being competitive in the market today.

Reuse

At Combitherm, we are proud to offer products of very high quality. Our thermal solutions are developed so they have a long lifespan and offer our customers the opportunity to reuse the products time and time again. This is both an environmental benefit and an economic gain for our customers. Should damage occur to the product, such as a tear in the foil, it will often be repairable. And thus, the product's lifespan can be further extended. We actively work on implementing inspection and repair of the products as a standard service for our customers.

Combitherms products are made from materials that are free of toxins and dust and they contain a significant proportion of fibers from recycled PET bottles, which reduces resource waste and minimises the carbon footprint.

Our standard insulations are produced from at least 75% regenerated material, which comes from used plastic bottles, and many of our foils also contain a certain percentage of recycled material.
