40 years of temperature control

Combitherm makes a living from stable temperatures and extensive know-how. They have been doing that for 40 years, and there are clear plans for significant growth in the coming years

Combitherm in Them makes a living from stable temperatures and extensive know-how. They have been doing that for 40 years, and there are clear plans for significant growth in the coming years.

A few degrees of variation can have a huge impact on a product or production. Here, Combitherm in Them has been supplying temperature solutions to many different industries for 40 years. Always adapted to the needs of each customer and with very few standard products on the shelves.

“Customers’ needs change constantly, and we keep up with them. New products require new solutions, and here we have always been sharp at providing thermal protection so that their products can maintain the desired temperature for as long as possible,” explains COO Torben Hallstrup.

The world’s first manufacturer of three-layer thermal protection

The company in Them was the world’s first manufacturer of three-layer thermal protection when it was founded in 1979. On 30 June 2019, Combitherm turns 40 years and has long since grown up. However, that does not mean that the company is having a midlife crisis - quite the opposite.

“We have had steady growth for many years and are now up to around 30 employees, but we have ambitions for more. The goal is significant growth over the next 5 years, both in terms of turnover and the number of employees, and this will primarily be achieved through exports,” says Torben Hallstrup.

Combitherm is owned by Henrik Christoffersen, who also owns the sister company Combi-Therm Consumer in Randers and is the CEO of both companies.

In Randers, 10 employees make the modern version of thermal bags, which can keep frozen goods cold all the way home from the supermarket on a hot summer day.

Business customers at the centre

In Them, business customers are at the centre. From the construction sector, which is a major consumer of winter mats, to food and pharmaceutical companies, which carry refrigerated goods with pallet covers on flights across the globe, to the wind turbine industry, which uses composite covers from Combitherm to insulate moulds during production..

“Some of our products are used to shorten the hardening time and save energy, others are used to secure food in transit, and still others to protect hot asphalt from the asphalt plant to the work site. The point is that we can deliver a tailor-made thermal solution for all applications where the temperature is important for the quality of the finished product,” says Henrik Christoffersen, who has been the owner of the two companies since 1995.

Tailor-made thermal solutions

“Tailor-made” is the key word here because a significant part of the manufacturing at Combitherm is done manually on large industrial machines, and others are made on special machines but are always based on the customer’s current needs.

“Apart from winter mats for the construction industry, we do not really have any standard products. We often get involved early in the process to contribute with our advice and vast experience, and we have had many of our customers for many years. We are also financially stable, so our customers can also rely on us to be here for many years to come. This solidity is essential for stable collaboration,” says Torben Hallstrup.
