Cold chain & temperature stabilisation

Get answers to your questions...

Welcome to our detailed FAQ section on cold chain and temperature stabilisation. Here, you will get answers to your questions about how Combitherm solutions assist in maintaining the cold chain and how the thermal solutions can protect temperature sensitive products throughout the storage and transportation process ensuring the safety, effectiveness, and longevity of your products.

Cold chain & temperature stabilisation

The cold chain refers to the temperature-controlled supply chain necessary for preserving and extending the shelf life of products like food and medicine. It is crucial for ensuring these products remain safe and effective from the point of manufacture to the end consumer.

Combitherm provides thermal products such as thermal covers that play a critical role in the cooling chain. The thermal covers help maintaining stable temperatures during the transport and storage of temperature-sensitive goods, thus ensuring an unbroken cold chain. Find out more about thermal covers.

Thermal solutions include products and technologies designed to protect temperature sensitive products against temperature fluctuations during transport and storage. The thermal solutions are crucial within in the pharmaceutical industry and the food industry to ensure an unbroken cold chain, preserving the quality and integrity of products from production to final delivery.

The thermal solution is based on a strong multi-layer construction with efficient Polywool insulation with spiral polyester hollow fibres and a selection of foils. The thermal solution can protect the products against greater or lesser temperature fluctuations depending on the insulation thicknesses. All solutions may be produced on customer-specific requirements and needs. Contact us for more information about custommade thermal solutions.

Temperature fluctuations refer to any unwanted deviation from the required temperature settings during the handling of sensitive products. Such fluctuations can degrade product quality, reduce shelf life, and in severe cases, render products unusable or unsafe.

Even minor temperature fluctuations can significantly reduce the quality of pharmaceutical products and, in the worst-case scenario, render valuable medicines ineffective or unsafe. It is therefore important to manage and stabilise the temperature during transport.

The transport of pharmaceutical goods involves several critical points where there are high risks of temperature deviations, including::

· Storage at intermediate stations before loading onto transportation
· Waiting on tarmac at airports before being loaded onto aircraft
· During deliveries when truck doors are opened for unloading other goods

These risks highlight the importance of maintaining stable temperatures throughout the entire delivery process. Find thermal solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.

Combitherm minimise temperature fluctuations by offering tailor-made, high-quality thermal solutions that ensure minimal temperature deviations. These solutions include thermal covers for pharmaceuticals, insulating mats for groceries, and various duvets for construction materials, all designed to keep products within their required temperature ranges. Find more information about our products.

Transporting pharmaceutical products is governed by stringent regulations, such as Good Distribution Practice (GDP) rules, which demand thorough documentation and quality control. It is essential to document that the required temperature conditions were maintained throughout the transport. Read how DHL meets GDP requirements.

Passive thermal solutions use insulative materials to keep a certain temperature during transport or storage of temperature-sensitive products and processes. Passive solutions do not require power to maintain temperatures and is therefore energy-saving offering a great balance between cost, efficiency, and usability.

Combitherm offers passive thermal solutions, including customisable thermal covers, to stabilise the temperature during all transportation stages. The thermal covers are designed to maintain requisite temperature ranges, ensuring compliance with strict transport and handling regulations. Find thermal solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.

Air cargo covers, a key product in Combitherms thermal solution range, are designed with a metallised surface to reflect 97% of solar radiation, effectively protecting against temperature increases from sunlight. The construction of the covers ensures that pharmaceutical products stay within the desired temperature range, making them a cost-effective alternative to active refrigeration units. Find more information about our thermal covers including air cargo covers.

There are several factors that influence how long products can maintain the desired temperature at a given ambient temperature. Among other things, it depends on which solution you use to protect your products. With a thermal cover consisting of a metallised foil and an insulation layer of 300g/m2, your products can stay within a temperature range of 2-8 degrees for up to 12 hours at an ambient temperature of 32 degrees. If the products are placed on an insulating bottom mat, the average time is even further improved. Contact us to find the right thermal solution for your company and needs.
