Combitherm signs agreement for renewable energy from new solar park

The new solar park in Mesballe will produce 14,000,000 kWh annually

At Combitherm, we are excited to share our purchase agreement to buy electricity from a new solar park in Mesballe on Djursland. This initiative reflects our commitment to creating a more sustainable future. By signing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), we are not just matching our energy consumption with clean energy - we are actively contributing to the growth of renewable energy in Denmark.

Combitherm, alongside 24 other companies, has entered into a groundbreaking Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to purchase electricity from a new solar park in Mesballe, Djursland, ensuring the park’s construction.

The historic PPA was made with electricity supplier Reel and project developer Energicenter Nord. It is the largest PPA in Denmark in terms of the number of signatories and marks a significant milestone in the way businesses access renewable energy and contribute to the energy transition.

"In response to the increasing global focus on sustainability and climate awareness, Combitherm recognizes the need to take greater environmental responsibility. As part of our sustainability strategy, entering into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to obtain electricity from a solar cell plant is therefore also completely in line with our commitment to increased sustainability and ensuring stability in the company's electricity costs," says CEO Torben Hallstrup from Combitherm.

Unlike conventional methods of purchasing renewable energy, PPAs are the only electricity agreement that directly result in the creation of new renewable energy projects, delivering both environmental and economic benefits.

By signing this PPA all the Danish companies entering the agreement is underscoring their commitment to a more sustainable future, ensuring that a portion of its electricity consumption is matched with new, carbon-free energy. The agreement is called a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and has been concluded with the electricity supplier Reel and the green energy developer Energicenter Nord.

About the solar park

The new solar park is set to be operational by the end of the year and will generate 14,000,000 kWh annually - equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 3,100 Danish households.

The new solar park will also promote biodiversity. Project developer Energicenter Nord is reserving part of the park for local and wild species to flourish and is particularly focused on preserving bat habitats. Fruit trees will be planted under the transformer lines, and wildflowers will be sown around the solar panels. The fence around the solar park will be raised 20 cm above the ground, allowing local wildlife to access their usual habitats. Many of the initiatives have been developed in collaboration with the local community to create a solar park that balances climate and nature concerns.

More companies are gaining access to renewable energy

Anders Meldgaard, Chief Commercial Director and co-founder of Reel, is excited about the milestone this agreement represents:

“We are thrilled to announce this PPA together with Energicenter Nord and to have enabled an impressive group of international and Danish companies, including Combitherm to add more renewable energy to the Danish power grid. This PPA marks a significant milestone in our journey to make renewable energy accessible – and attractive – for all companies, regardless of size. We are especially pleased that the solar park's power will benefit so many local companies, ensuring even greater local value creation.”
